GE Appliances dishwasher error code

GE Appliances dishwasher code C6: Incoming water too cold

GE dishwashers with electronic controls

What C6 means

The water coming into the dishwasher is too cold. GE says it should be at least 120°F.

Likely causes

  • Water heater set too low
  • Long cold run of pipe to the dishwasher
  • Other hot water use at the same time

Safe first checks

  1. Run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before you start the dishwasher.
  2. Avoid running the washing machine or showers while the dishwasher runs.
  3. Check the water heater setting, and use options that make the cycle run longer to add heat.

When to stop

Don't set a water heater so hot that it scalds. If the code continues with hot water at the sink, schedule service.
