What E1 means
The thermostat needs a C (common) wire, or the Nest Power Connector, for dedicated power, or the C wire isn't giving enough power.
Also shown as: E297, N260, N410, N261, N411, depending on the model.
Likely causes
- No C wire installed
- Loose C wire
- Wiring info in the app out of date
Safe first checks
- With power off at the breaker, check whether a wire is in the C connector and fully seated.
- Update the wiring info in the Google Home app (Settings, Thermostat, Wiring).
When to stop
Connecting a spare wire at the furnace board means opening HVAC equipment. Google calls this advanced; a pro can install a C wire.
