What AF means
The lint screen or vent is clogged, or the vent is crushed, kinked or has too many turns. The dryer keeps running, but drying takes longer.
Also shown as: Check Vent, depending on the model.
Likely causes
- Full lint screen
- Lint in the vent
- Crushed or kinked vent
- Clogged outside hood
Safe first checks
- Clean the lint screen.
- Unplug the dryer, pull it out and make sure the vent from the dryer to the wall isn't crushed, kinked or full of lint.
- Run the dryer 5–10 minutes and feel the air at the outside hood. If it's weaker than a hair dryer on high, clean the whole vent run and the hood.
When to stop
If the message continues, have the whole home vent run cleaned by a venting specialist. A clogged vent is a fire risk.
