What HE means
The dryer is running too hot, or it's having trouble heating. Samsung says a clogged lint screen or vent is the usual cause; on electric dryers, low voltage can also cause poor heating.
Also shown as: HC, hE, HC4, depending on the model.
Likely causes
- Clogged lint screen or vent
- Low supply voltage (electric models)
- Heating system fault
Safe first checks
- Clean the lint screen.
- Clean the exhaust vent from the dryer to the outside and make sure the outside flap opens.
- Check your home's breaker panel: an electric dryer uses a double breaker, and if one half has tripped the dryer may run without heat.
When to stop
If it still overheats or won't heat after cleaning, request service. If you suspect low voltage, have an electrician check the circuit.
